7 APRIL IS WORLD HEALTH DAY - SLOGAN FOR 1964 : "NO TRUCE FOR TUBERCULOSIS".
21. INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP TO MASTER TUBERCULOSIS. With the joint assistance of WHO and UNICEF more than 150 million people have been vaccinated in 61 countries, tuberculosis control training centres have been set up in many parts of the world and more recently pilot projects in TB control for about a third of the world's population have been started. The International Union against Tuberculosis is another partner in the world-wide fight against tuberculosis. Special surveys are an important preliminary to the organization of an anti-tuberculosis campaign. In the State of Mysore, India, teams of young sociologists go from house to hut to bamboo lean-to in the villages inquiring into the attitude towards health of each inhabitant. The training of the teams is directed by a WHO expert. The Mysore survey has shown that more than half of the total of tuberculosis sufferers were sufficiently aware of their condition to seek treatment.
World Health Day, observed each year on 7 April, marks the anniversary of the coming into force of the Constitution of the World Health Organization.
