7 APRIL IS WORLD HEALTH DAY - SLOGAN FOR 1964 : "NO TRUCE FOR TUBERCULOSIS".
18. OBSTACLES TO VICTORY - THE RESISTANCE OF MAN AND BACILLUS. Human resistance to the discipline of taking potent drugs regularly for a long period means that the tubercle bacillus is subjected to only a half-hearted attack and this gives it the time to mobilize a drug-resistant population. Once this has happened there is no reprieve: the bacillus that has been "immunized" through the patient's negligence produces other bacilli just as impervious to the effect of the drugs to which it is resistant. Our photo shows research work in a WHO-assisted (and UNICEF-equipped) project laboratory in Kenya. The technician is in the process of performing a resistance test on bacilli cultured from a TB patient.
World Health Day, observed each year on 7 April, marks the anniversary of the coming into force of the Constitution of the World Health Organization.

18. 勝利への障害 - 人間と細菌の抗争 。強力な薬を長期間定期的に服用するという規律に人が抵抗するということは、結核菌が弱い攻撃しか受けないことを意味し、薬剤耐性集団を組織する時間を与えてしまうことになる。一度そうなってしまったら、猶予はない。患者の不注意によって「免疫化」された菌は、耐性を持つ薬が効かない他の桿菌を作り出す。写真はケニアにある世界保健機関（WHO）の支援（および国連児童基金(ユニセフ)の提供）による研究所での作業風景。技師が結核患者から培養した桿菌の耐性試験を行っているところ。毎年4月7日の世界保健デーは、世界保健機関（WHO）憲章発効記念日。
