The Zuisho-Maru No. 12, a 750-ton fishing trawler owned and operated by the Ryukyu Gyogyo Company, is steaming toward her base in the Atlantic Ocean - Las Palmas, Canary Islands - to begin a two-year fishing operation. Friends and families are shown here bidding farewell to crew members from the wharf of Naha Port on April 21. The Zuisho-Maru No. 12 represents three historic milestones in the growth of the Ryukyuan fishing industries: she will be the first Ryukyuan single-trawl fishing vessel in operation, the first Ryukyuan trawler to operate in the Atlantic Ocean, and the first Ryukyuan vessel of any kind to pass through the Suez Canal. A sister ship, the Zuisho-Maru No. 11, is scheduled to join in the Atlantic fishing operation in June.
【和訳】 第12瑞祥丸
大西洋への期待をこめた航路を進む
琉球漁業会社所属の750トンのトロール船、第12瑞祥丸が大西洋の拠点であるカナリア諸島のラス・パルマスに向けて出航、2年間の操業を開始した。4月21日に那覇港の埠頭から、家族や友人たちが乗組員を見送った。第12瑞祥丸は琉球初の大西洋上でのトロール漁を１隻で操業、初のスエズ運河通過という、琉球漁業における3つの歴史的節目をなす。6月に姉妹船の第11瑞祥丸が大西洋上の操業に参加する予定である。
