Reception for KYOKUYO-Maru #12

Mr. Seikichi SUGAMA, personnel of the KYOKUYO-Maru #12 and honored guests, it is a pleasure to welcome this vessel as the latest addition to the Ryukyuan fishing industry. This vessel, with its modern gear and up-to-date mechanical and electronic aids, and its ability to work distant fishing grounds for extended periods will make a substantial contribution to your fishing industry. I note that during the past year, the KYOKUYO-Maru #10, operated by Okinawa Suisan, and the largest vessel in the Ryukyuan fishing fleet, had the record catch for all Ryukyuan vessels that year. This vessel alone contributed nearly one-quarter of a million dollars to the Ryukyuan economy that year, as gross revenue from the sale of its catch. It has been demonstrated that through the operation of those modern vessels, your fisherman are able to achieve a good catch per unit of effort, assure the owners of reasonable profitable operations, and the vessel personnel of better earnings with a consequent better standard of living.

スガマ・セイキチ様、および第12極洋丸の関係者とご来賓の皆様、本船がを琉球の漁業に新たに加わったことを大変喜ばしく思っております。この船は、近代的な装備と最新の機械的・電子的補助装置を備え、遠洋漁場で長期間作業する能力を備えており、漁業に大きく貢献します。なお、沖縄水産が運航する琉球最大の漁船 「第10極洋丸」 は、昨年の琉球漁船全体の漁獲高を記録しました。この船だけで琉球経済に約25万ドルの収益をもたらしています。これらの近代的な船舶の操業を通じて、漁師は努力単位当たりの漁獲高を達成することができ、合理的で収益性の高い操業の所有者を保証することができ、その結果、船員のより良い収入とより良い生活水準を達成することができることが実証されています。
