Crew members of the 175-ton tuna boat, the Heiwa Maru No. 35, and officials of Kaiyo Fisheries and the Wada Trading Company called at the American Consular Unit in Naha today to express their gratitude for cooperating in their release from Indonesia last month. The fishing vessel was seized by Indonesian officials in November and charged with trespassing in Indonesian waters. The American Consular Unit, at the request of Mutsuo Nakada, president of Kaiyo Fisheries which chartered the vessel from the Wada Trading Company, cabled the American Embassy in Indonesia to assist in seeking the release of the vessel. The release of the Heiwa Maru by the Indonesian government was effected through the assistance of the American Embassy and the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta. Expressing their gratitude to American Consul Abraham Vigil are (L to R): Saichi Takano of Kagoshima, Japan, fishing master of the Heiwa Maru; Satoru Imai of Kagoshima, skipper; Toichi Wada of Shimonoseki, Japan, president of the Wada Trading Company; Seitoku Nakada of Naha, managing director of the Kaiyo Fisheries; Hr. 175トンのマグロ船第35平和丸の乗組員及び開洋水産とワダトレーディング社の関係者は本日、那覇市の米領事館を訪問し、先月のインドネシアからの解放に協力してくれた感謝の意を表明した。漁船は11月にインドネシア当局に押収され、インドネシアの海域を通行した罪で起訴された。米領事館は、ワダトレーディング社から船をチャーターした開洋水産の仲田睦男社長の要請を受け、インドネシアの米大使館に電報を打ち船の解放を求めた。インドネシア政府によるヘイワ丸の解放は、ジャカルタの米大使館と日本大使館の支援を受けて行われた。米領事アブラハム・ヴィジルに感謝の意を表すのは (左から)、タカノ・サイチ氏 (在鹿児島、平和丸の漁労長)、イマイ・サトル氏 (在鹿児島、船長)、ワダ・トイチ氏 (在下関、ワダトレーディング社社長)、仲田清徳氏 (在那覇、開洋水産株式会社専務)、ヴィジル氏及び宮良用英氏 (米領事館)。
