JAZZ WORKSHOP -- Charles Lloyd (R), composer, tenor saxophonist and flutist, leader of the outstanding Charles Lloyd Quartet, discusses jazz with Ryukyuan musicians at a jazz workshop at the Ryukyu Tokyu Hotel in Naha May 18. Other members of the quartet are (seated at left side, L-R) Paul Motian, drums; Jane Getz, piano; and Ron McClure, string bass. Second from right is Tadao Tokashiki, well-known Ryukyuan jazz critic. The quartet won the admiration of Ryukyuan jazz audiences during its three performances in Okinawa. The quartet is on a tour of Asian cities under the auspices of the U.S. State Department's Cultural Presentations Program. Public Affairs Department, U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus, coordinated local arrangements with the Okinawa Times and Okinawa Musicians Association.

作曲家でテナーサックス、フルート奏者として知られ、著名な チャールズ・ロイド・カルテット を率いる チャールズ・ロイド（右） が5月18日、那覇の琉球東急ホテルで開かれたジャズ・ワークショップで琉球のミュージシャンたちとジャズについて語り合った。カルテットのメンバーは他に（着席している左から）ポール・モティアン（ドラム）、ジェーン・ゲッツ（ピアノ）、ロン・マクルーア（コントラバス）。右から2人目は、琉球のジャズ評論家として知られる渡嘉敷唯夫。同カルテットは沖縄で3回の公演を行い、琉球のジャズ愛好家から賞賛を集めた。同カルテットは米国務省文化交流プログラムの後援で、アジアの各都市をツアー中。USCAR広報局が沖縄タイムス社と沖縄音楽家協会と連携し、現地での手配を行った。
