ALOHA WITH FLOWERS -- a gift of Hawaiian anthuriums is presented to Mr. Gerald Warner, U.S. Civil Administrator of the Ryukyu Islands, by a delegation from Hui O lMakaala, a group of young Hawaiians descended from Okinawan emigrants, making an annual visit to the Ryukyu Islands through the coordination of the Office of the High Commissioner of the Ryukyu Islands and the Headquarters of the U.S. Army, Pacific, in Honolulu. Shown L-R: Mr. Patrick Arakaki, vicepresident, Hui O Makaala; Mr. Warner; Mr. Roy Takushi; and, Mr. Douglas Miyasato. Mr. Arakaki's parents were from Itoman-cho; Mr. Takushi, from Yomitan and Nago; and Mr. Miyasato, from Yogi, Misato-son -- all on Okinawa, the main island of the Ryukyuan archipelago. During their ten-day visit, the three-man Hawaiian group will meet with government and civic leaders, university faculties and students, observe vocational training facilities, visit local industrial, cultural and scenic facilities, and meet with members of the Golden Gate Club, Ryukyuans who have studied in Hawaii and the mainland United States. Members of the Golden Gate Club are scheduled to visit Hawaii in May in return for the visit of the Hui O Makaala group's visit to Okinawa.
【和訳】≪写真はフィオ―マカーラ -- 沖縄系ハワイ生まれの若い人々で結成している親睦団体 -- から派遣された親善使節団一行が、ジェラルドワーナー民政官にハワイのアンスリウムを贈呈しているところ。一行は高等弁務官府とホノルル在米陸軍太平洋地区司令部の世話で現在沖縄を訪れている。写真左らフィオーマカーラ副会長、パトリック新垣、ワーナー・ロイ沢岻及びダグラス宮里の各氏。新垣氏の両親は糸満出身、沢岻氏の両親は名ゴ及び読谷出身、宮里氏の両親は美里村與儀の出身である。10日間の滞在中に一行は政府や民間の要人、大学職員及び学生たちと会い、職業教育施設≫沖縄の産業文化施設を訪れ、観光も楽しむ。 また、ハワイやアメリカ本土に留学経験のある琉球人、金門クラブの会員との交流も予定されている。 金門クラブのメンバーは、フィオーマカーラグループの沖縄訪問の返礼として、5月にハワイを訪問する予定である。
