TRAINING FOR RYUKYUAN NURSES AT U.S. ARMY HOSPITAL -- Miss Kayoko Hokama, instructor of orthopedics, Koza Nursing School, is shown learning nursing from Capt. Anita Barretta, head nurse on orthopedics ward Army Hospital Camp Kue. Four Ryukyuan nurses are receiving postgraduate training at the U.S. Army Hospital, Camp Kue, under the sponsorship of the U.S. Army Hospital and the Government of the Ryukyu Islands. They are Mrs. Kayoko Hokama, instructor of orthopedics, and Miss Mitsuko Kiyomura, instructor of internal medicine, both of the Koza Nursing School; Miss Yoshie Nagamine, medical supervisor, Naha Nursing School; and Mrs. Chiyoko Asato, Koza Hospital. Mrs. Hokama, Miss Kiyomura and Miss Nagamine began a one-month training on Aug. 6 to coincide with their summer vacation. Mrs. Asato is receiving physiotherapy training at the hospital for six month and, upon completion, she is expected to become an instructor of physiotherapy at the Koza Hospital. The program, 40 hours a week, is designed to help Ryukyuan nurses improve their techniques public health and hygiene in the Ryukyu Islands. 【和訳】琉球の看護婦のための陸軍病院での実習 - キャンプ桑江の陸軍病院整形外科棟看護婦長アニータ・バレッタ少佐から指導を受けるコザ看護学校整形外科講師の外間嘉代子。米陸軍病院と琉球政府の後援で、琉球の看護婦4人がキャンプ桑江の米陸軍病院で研修を受けている。研修を受けているのはコザ看護学校整形外科講師の外間嘉代子と内科講師の清村美津子、那覇看護学校医務管理者の長峯芳枝、コザ病院の安里千代子。外間、清村、長峯は、夏休みを利用して8月6日から1ヶ月間の研修を開始した。安里は同病院で6ヶ月間の理学療法研修を受けており、修了後はコザ病院の理学療法士になる予定。週40時間のこの実習は、琉球の看護婦が看護分野の技術を向上させ、琉球の公衆衛生水準の向上に貢献できるようにすることを目的としている。
