NURSE CAPPING CEREMONY -- A solemn capping ceremony for 44 student nurses of the Naha Nursing School was held at the school on Thursday, May 2. Each of the student nurses received her white cap, denoting the spirit of philanthropy and service, and a lighted candled signifying the soul of endless love. Left to right are Miss Chiyoko Yogi, instructor, lighting the candle of Miss Emi Uechi, student nurse; Miss Yoshiko Odo, instructor, capping Miss Masako Uechi, student nurse, with Miss Hiroko Nakamura, instructor, partially obscured behind Miss Uechi. In addressing the student nurses at the capping ceremony, Mrs. Barbara Shay, public health nurse, Public Health and Welfare Dept., Office of the High Commissioner, traced the history of nursing and called upon the young nurses to improve the status of the nursing profession.

【和訳】看護婦の戴帽式
看護婦戴帽式－5月2日（木）、厳粛な雰囲気の中、那覇看護学校の看護婦44名の戴帽式が同校で開催。博愛と奉仕の精神を表す白帽と、限りない愛の魂を表す燭台が一人ひとりに手渡された。左から、ウエチ・エミさんに火をつけるヨギ・チヨコ講師、ウエチ・マサコさんにキャップをかぶせるオド・ヨシコ講師、ウエチさんの後ろに隠れているのはナカムラ・ヒロコ講師。高等弁務官事務所保健福祉部のバーバラ・シェイ保健師は、看護婦の歴史を紹介し、看護婦の地位向上を呼びかけた。
