NURSE CAPPING CEREMONY -- A solemn capping ceremony for 44 student nurses of the Naha Nursing School was held at the school on Thursday, May 2. Each of the student nurses received her white cap, denoting the spirit of philanthropy and service, and a lighted candled signifying the soul of endless love. Left to right are Miss Chiyoko Yogi, instructor, lighting the candle of Miss Emi Uechi, student nurse; Miss Yoshiko Odo, instructor, capping Miss Masako Uechi, student nurse, with Miss Hiroko Nakamura, instructor, partially obscured behind Miss Uechi. In addressing the student nurses at the capping ceremony, Mrs. Barbara Shay, public health nurse, Public Health and Welfare Dept., Office of the High Commissioner, traced the history of nursing and called upon the young nurses to improve the status of the nursing profession.
