JOINT ANTI-CHOLERA PREVENTION CONFERENCE was held by Ryukyuan and American public health, police, legal, quarantine, transportation and harbor officials on Aug. 17 in the USCAR Conference Room. They discussed all possible measures and coordinating arrangements designed to prevent entrance of cholera to the Ryukyu Islands from abroad. No case of cholera has been reported to date. Among those attending, from the Office of High Commissioner, were Lt. Col. (Dr.) Roy A. Highsmith, director, and Lt. Col. Charles V. L. Elia, deputy director, Public Health and Welfare Dept.; Harriman N. Simmons, director, Public Safety Dept.; and Irving Eisenstein, deputy director, Legislative And Legal Dept. Government of the Ryukyu Islands participants included Masuaki Kinjo, director, and Kanzen Teruya, deputy director, Welfare Dept.; Tomomasa Hisada, chief, public health section, Welfare Dept.; Kamezo Namizato, chief Immigration Bureau; Tamazo Arakaki, chief, Legal Section, Legal Dept. Naha City officials included Senshu Takemura, chief, Public Health Section; Seiken Matayoshi, harbormaster, Tomari Port; and other officials representing customs, the post office, animal and plant quarantine, and economic and welfare activities.

8月17日米民政府会議室で合同コレラ防止会議を開催する琉球とアメリカの公衆衛生、警察、法律、検疫、輸送、港湾の関係者。海外から琉球列島へのコレラ侵入を防ぐためのあらゆる対策と調整体制について話し合われた。現在、コレラの発症は報告されていない。出席者は、高等弁務官事務所から公衆衛生福祉部長のロイ・A.・ハイスミス中佐、チャールズ・V・L・イリア副部長、ハリマン・シモンズ公安局局長、アービング・アイゼンシュタイン法務局法務部副部長他。琉球政府からは、キンジョウ・マスアキ福祉部長、テルヤ・カンゼン福祉部次長、ヒサダ・トモマサ福祉部保健課長、ナミザト・カメゾウ入国管理局長、アラカキ・タマゾウ法務課長、那覇市からタケムラ・センシュウ保健課長、マタヨシ・セイケン泊港湾管理者、その他税関、郵便、動植物検疫、経済、福祉関係者が出席。
