MALARIA ERADICATION --- Dr. Chen Wan-I (left), director of the Malaria Research, Taiwan Provincial Health Administration, Republic of china, and consultant to the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) regional headquarters in Manila, discusses the successful Ryukyuan-American program of almost total victory over the malaria mosquito in the Yaeyama Gunto, as Capt. Carl Pace (right), sanitary officer, Public Health and Welfare Dept., Office of the High Commissioner, points to Ishigaki Island in the Gunto. Dr. Chen is scheduled to fly to Miyako and Ishigaki today for a 45-day evaluation and study tour of Yaeyarna with Kazuichi Toma, chief of insect and rodent control, Public Health Section, Welfare Dept., Government of the Ryukyu Islands, and Hiroshi Nakada, public health inspector, PH&W, Office of the High Commissioner.

マラリア撲滅－八重山群島で、琉球・米国のプログラムがマラリア蚊にほぼ打ち勝った事について話をするChen Wan-i博士（左）。Chen Wan-i博士は、台湾省衛生庁マラリア研究部長でマニラの世界保健機関（WHO）地域本部の顧問。右は、高等弁務官事務所保健福祉部衛生官のカール・ペース大佐で、指で指しているのは八重山の石垣島。Chen博士は、琉球政府福祉部公衆衛生課のトウマ・カズミ虫及び野ネズミ防除係長、高等弁務官事務所予防医学福祉部のナカダ・ヒロシ衛生検査官とともに、45日間の八重山の評価・研修のため今日宮古・石垣へ飛ぶ予定。
