Col. Melford M. Wheatley, departing provost marshal, United States Army, Ryukyu Islands, was presented a letter of appreciation recently by Tokusuke Arakaki, chief, Police Headquarters, Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRI). Between them is Harriman N. Simmons, director, Public Safety Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus. Colonel Wheatley was thanked for his close cooperation with the civil police on incidents of mutual concern during the period from July 1967 to August 1970. He was also conferred the honorary rank of senior superintendent of the GRI police at the ceremony.
【和訳】 感謝状
琉球政府警察本部長新垣徳助氏から感謝状を贈られる在沖米陸軍憲兵司令官メルフォード・M・ウィートリー大佐。両氏の間に写るのは琉球列島米国民政府公安局ハリソン・N・シモンズ局長。1967年7月から1970年8月までの期間、相互に関連した事件で琉球の警察との緊密な協力に対して感謝を表したもの。式典で大佐に琉球政府警視正の名誉称号も授与された。
