At Naha Commercial Port preparing to sail for skip-jack fishing in Palau waters. Under agreement between the Nanyo Fisheries Company of Naha and Van Camp Sea Food Company of San Diego, USA, more than 90 Ryukyuan fishermen aboard the vessels left on June 2 and route to Palau Island, about 1,150 miles in a southeasterly direction from Okinawa. The fishery base will be at Malakal, Palau, with delivery of fish to the Van Camp cold storage plant at dockside. Total catch in the one-year operational period beginning July 1 is forecast to be 6,300 tons.
