A tug-of-war makes for a good time by all as Miss Mary Muehring (L), principal, Sukiran Elementary School, and Katsumi Takara, principal, Kitanakagusuku Elementary School encourage the pupils participating in one of the games at the second annual Ryukyuan-American Play Day program held at the Sukiran school grounds on Wednesday, March 6. Approximately 50 Ryukyuan and 100 American 6th-grade children from Kitanakagusuku and Sukiran elementary schools participated in the day's activities, which included softball, kick balls soccer, tug-of-war, relay running, and folk dance demonstrations. Lunch served in the Sukiran school cafeteria for all participants was donated by the American Women's Advisory Council to the Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center. After Lunch, each Ryukyuan pupil was escorted by an American pupil on a tour of the Sukiran classes. The program was arranged and coordinated by Seisho Tengan, recreation specialist, Cultural Affairs Division, Public Affairs Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands; Willam Elliott, assistant principal, Kubasaki High School; Mrs. Carol Lester, physical education instructor, Sukiran Elementary School; and Principals Katsumi Takara and Mary Muehring.

写真は、3月6日(水曜日)瑞慶覧小学校グランドで開催された第2回琉米プレイ・デイの競技種目の1つである綱引きで瑞慶覧小学校のメリー・ムーリング校長及び北中城小学校の高良勝美校長が生徒達を激励しているところ。このプレイ・デイには北中小学校から6年生の生徒50人及び瑞慶覧小学校から6年生の生徒100人がソフト・ボール、マリ蹴り、サッカー、綱引き、生徒及びフォークダンス等に参加した。全員は瑞慶覧小学校内カフェテリアで昼食をしたが、この費用は琉米文化会館婦人協議会が負担した。食後、北中小学校の生徒は米小学校の生徒の案内で教室の見学をした。このプログラムは米国民政府広報局文化事業部のリクリエーション専門官天願清昌氏、久場崎米人高校のウィリアム・エリオット教頭、瑞慶覧小学校のキャロル・レスター体育教諭、高良校長及びムーリン校長等によって準備された。
