The island community of Zamami in the Kerama group west of Naha received a $5,000 grant from the High Commissioner's Special Fund on Saturday, Nov. 5. Representing the High Commissioner, Lieut. General Donald P. Booth, was Monta L. Osborne (left), director of the Office of Public Affair USCAR, who was accompanied by Maynard N. Shirven (second from left), director of the Office of Plans and Programs, USCAR; Dr. Samuel N. Mukaida (third from left), chief of Cultural Centers Branch, OPA, and Seiko Kohagura (second from right), director of Education, GRI. Greeting the visitors to Zamami is Mayor Yasuichi Yamashiro (third from right). Following the presentation of the High Commissioner fund grant, members of the Stone Gate Club and the Naha Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center entertained the townspeople with dances and a puppet show.
