All members enjoyed the Obon dance which was the feature at the regular monthly meeting of International Women's Club (headed by Mrs. Gerald Warner) held at Harborview Club on Sept. 10. Mrs. Shannon McCune, wife of new Civil Administrator, (second from left) was the guest of the Club and joined the Obon dance, arranged by Ryukyuan dancer Mrs. Yoshiyuki Majikina, based on the popular Ryukyuan song, "Chinsagu nu Hana". Besides enjoying the Obon dance, American members viewed the Obon offerings which are intended as offerings to the spirits of the deceased during the Obon Festival.
【和訳】 盆踊り
9月10日にハーバービュー・クラブで開かれた国際婦人クラブ (代表ジェラルド・ワーナー夫人) の定例会で、クラブ会員たちが盆踊りを楽しんだ。クラブのゲストに新しい民政官の夫人、シャノン・マキューン夫人 (左から2人目) を迎え、琉球で人気の歌「てぃんさぐぬ花」をもとに、琉球舞踊家マジキナ・ヨシユキ夫人がアレンジした盆踊りを楽しんだ。会員たちはまた、盆踊りを楽しむだけではなく、故人の霊へ捧げられる供物を見学した。
