Representatives of the Ryukyu Water Transportation Association called on Civil Administrator Shannon McCune in his office on Aug. 30 and expressed their deep, profound gratitude for the largest air-sea recovery operation by U.S. Forces in local history, following the tragic sinking of the 300-ton Midori Maru, 18.5 kilometers west of Naha on Aug. 17. Prior to the visit, they met High Commissioner Paul W. Caraway to offer their heartfelt thanks for the joint U.S. Forces' life-saving efforts.
