Mrs. Jeanette K. Fink, director, Education Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands (USCAR), addresses the 48th-term members of the Okinawa Industrial Development Youth Corps (OIDYC) at its opening ceremony held at the OIDYC's camp in Taiho, Ogimi-Son, on Jan. 13. The 69 students, divided into three groups, will be trained for six months in accordance with the corps' principle "learning by doing" in such fields as general agriculture, mechanical engineering, current events, social science, English, culture and geography in South America, and emigration policy of the government. Interpreting for Mrs. Fink is Mr. Noboru Hiyane, education advisor, Education Dept., USCAR.

1月13日、大宜味村キャンプ大保の沖縄産業開発青年隊第48期隊員入隊式にて挨拶する琉球列島米国民政府教育局ジャネット・K・フィンク局長。69名の隊員は3つの班に分かれ、6か月間の訓練は隊長の「実践的学習」の方針を基に、一般的な農業、機械工学、時事問題、社会科学、英語、南アメリカの文化および地理学、政府の移民政策を学ぶ。ジャネット・K・フィンク氏の通訳を務めたのは、琉球列島米国民政府教育局教育顧問のヒヤネ・ノボル氏。
