MASTER CAPTION
AMERICAN VOLUNTEER TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (AVTA), composed of American men and women on Okinawa offering their teaching talents on their own time and without pay, grew out of an informal English-language teaching program which was started by two American women in 1956. Today, the AVTA comprises approximately 260 volunteers, teaching in 47 Okinawan schools from elementary to college level, and is accepted as a part of the U.S. People-to-People program. The purpose of the AVTA is to assist Okinawan students in learning the fundamentals of the English language, emphasizing pronunciation and intonation. Through the study of English, the AVTA aims to promote international friendship and understanding. 【和訳】 浦添中校に英語の指導をする米婦人 ブリュー・メゴワン夫人
