THE AMERICAN BRASS QUINTET, one of America's leading chamber music ensembles arrived here April 18 for two performances; one at the Okinawa Times Hall starting at 6 p.m., April' 19 and at the Kubasaki High School Auditorium starting at 7:30 p.m., April 20 and a workshop for brass instrumentalists at the Naha Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center. The visit to Okinawa was made possible by a recent change in the quintet's heavy schedule--of which the U. S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR) and the Okinawa Brass Musicians Association quickly took advantage to bring the group to Okinawa. The quintet's tour of the Far East and Pacific is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State under its cultural presentation program. Shown at the Naha Civil Air Terminal after arrival are (L-R) Gerald Schwarz, trumpet; Robert Biddlecome, bass trombone; John Eckert, trumpet; Edward Birdwell, French horn; Arnold Fromme, tenor trombone; and James McFarland, an escort officer of the quintet. アメリカを代表する室内アンサンブルのひとつ、アメリカン・ブラス・クインテットが2回の公演を行うため、 4月18日に来沖した。公演は沖縄タイムスホールで4月19日午後6時から、クバサキ・ハイスクールで20日午後7時30分から開催され、那覇琉米文化会館では金管楽器奏者を対象としたワークショップも行われる。クインテットの過密な演奏日程に最近変更が生じたことから、USCARと沖縄金管奏者協会はその機会を逃さず、迅速に来沖の実現へとつなげた。クインテットの極東・太平洋地域ツアーは、米国務省の文化交流プログラムの一環として行われている。写真は、4月18日那覇空港に到着したメンバーたち。左からトランペットのジェラルド・シュワルツ、バストロンボーンのロバート・ビドルカム、トランペットのジョン・エッカート、フレンチホルンのエドワード・バードウェル、テナートロンボーンのアーノルド・フロム、そしてクインテット随行担当のジェームズ・マクファーランド。出迎えるのは（右）USCAR広報局地域関係担当官トーマス・D・ワトキンス少佐（地域渉外担当官）とサミュエル・N・ムカイダ文化課長。
