NAHA STADIUM DEDICATED - The dedication ceremony of the Naha Memorial Stadium was held on December 10 attended by many American and Ryukyuan guests, including U.S . Deputy Civil Administrator Roderick M. Gillies, Ryukyus Government Chief Executive Seisaku Ota and Naha City Mayor Saichi Kaneshi. Following the
ceremony in which letters of appreciation were presented to U.S. High Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Donald P. Booth, Civil Administrator Brig. Gen. John G. Ondrick, Mr. Gillies and Chief Executive Ota who delivered an address expressing Joy over the completion of the stadium with the assistance of USCAR. The first baseball game started with the ball thrown out by Mr. Gillies. The ground which was completed at a cost of more than＄240,0,000 is capable of accommodating 20,000 people. 那覇の野球場が落成 - 那覇記念野球場の落成式は12月10日、米国民政府ローデリック・M・ギーリス副民政官、琉球政府の大田政作行政主席、兼次佐一那覇市長をはじめ多くのアメリカ人および琉球の来賓が出席して行われた。式典では米国高等弁務官ドナルド・P・ブース陸軍中将、民政官ジョン・G・オンドリック准将、ギーリス副民政官および大田行政主席に対し感謝状が贈られ、大田主席は挨拶の中で、USCARの支援でこの野球場が完成したことへの喜びを表明した。式典のあと、ギーリス副民政官の始球式で、最初の野球試合が始まった。総工費24万ドル以上をかけて建設されたグラウンドは2万人を収容可能。写真は那覇野球場の開所式で挨拶するギーリス副民政官。
