HICOM MEMENTOS were presented to Konan Senior High School baseball team members and school officials by High Commissioner F. T. Unger at a ceremony held Sept. 3 at the school. The High Commissioner said, "Your motto of guts, brains, teamwork, is completely descriptive of the successful manner in which you participated in this year's All-Japan High School Baseball Summer Tournament. Without any doubt, each of you displayed all these attributes to the utmost in achieving such a outstanding success. When you earned the opportunity to participate in the tournament as the best of 32 senior high school teams in the Ryukyus, that accomplishment alone was a signal honor. When you were victorious in your second and third games, near Osaka, you surpassed the performance of any other Ryukyuan senior high school team in history. When you won the fourth game in the quarter-finals and earned the opportunity to participate in the semi-finals, you may be sure that not only baseball fans but the entire population of the Ryukyus and even that of Japan proper were enthusiastically aware of your outstanding performance."

高等弁務官トロフィーを受け取る興南高校野球部の上原義則。
9月3日に興南高校で行われた式典で、F・T・アンガー高等弁務官から野球部員と学校関係者に記念品が贈られた。アンガー高等弁務官は「皆さんのモットーである『気力・知恵・チームワーク』は、まさに今年の全国高等学校野球夏季大会における皆さんの見事な活躍ぶりを表している。疑う余地なく、ひとり一人がこの3つの精神を最大限に発揮し、卓越した成果を収めた。琉球の32の高等学校チームの中で最優秀チームとして大会に出場する機会を得たこと自体が、すでに大きな名誉である。大阪近郊での第2戦・第3戦の勝利により、琉球の高校野球史上、他のどのチームをもしのぐ快挙を成し遂げた。準々決勝の第4戦に勝利し、準決勝へ進出した時には、野球ファンだけでなく、琉球の人々、さらには日本本土の人々までもが皆さんの見事な活躍を熱い思いで見守っていたことは間違いない。」と述べた。
