GOVERNOR AND MRS. JOHN A. BURNS of Hawaii are met by Chief Executive Seisaku Ota of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands at the Naha CiVil Air Terminal on their arrival on June 13.
High Commissioner of the Ryukyu Islands, Paul W. Caraway, and Mrs. Caraway hosted a dinner reception honoring Governor and Mrs. John A. Burns of Hawaii at the Ft. Buckner Officers Open Mess on Okinawa on June 13. The Governor and Mrs. Burns arrived on Okinawa earlier in the day from Tokyo for a two-day visit while on a tour of the Far East in behalf of promoting tourism to Hawaii and the mainland United States. On arrival at Naha Civil Air Terminal, the Governor praised Hawaiians of Okinawan ancestry for their substantial contributions to the growth and development of Hawaii as the "Paradise of the Pacific", and added that the people of Hawaii, particularly those of Okinawan ancestry, have "a very real interest in what goes on in the Ryukyus." He said "all America is very grateful to the people of the Ryukyus for their participation in America's effort to preserve the Free World and to extend the Free World."
