RYUKYUAN DOCTORS TRAIN AT ARMY HOSPITAL -- Drs. Hiromichi Tomori and Ken Takara (right) are shown studying and discussing x-ray plates at the U.S. Army Hospital, Ryukyu Islands a part of their six-month training course. Supervising the two Ryukyuan doctors is Maj. August A. Howard, chief of the Medical Service. The residency training program, sponsored by the U.S. Civil Administration, was begun in 1956 and the only requirement is that the trainees be able to speak English. Drs. Tomori and Takara are assigned to wards in the hospital and participate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
【和訳】陸軍病院で研修する琉球の医師たち - 米陸軍病院での6か月にわたる研修の一環で、レントゲン写真を見ながら意見を交わす医師のトモリ・ヒロミチとタカラ・ケン（右）。2人を指導するのは米陸軍病院医学部長オーガスト・A・ハワード少佐。研修医事業は1956年から米国民政府の支援で始まり、唯一の条件は英語が話せる事である。トモリ、タカラ両医師は陸軍病院の病棟に配属され、患者の診断と治療に加わっている。
