HUMAN WARMTH AND KINDNESS -- Sp5 Francis C. Todd of the 539th Engineer Detachment, Special Action Force, Asia, a patient in the U.S. Army Hospital on Okinawa, reads a letter from Ueno-Son Mayor Kaxuhiro Shimoji which said in part, "the human warmth and kindness you left in this village has truly made a permanent impression on its citizens". Along with the letter, $100 from the staff of the municipal office was presented to Specialist Todd Nov. 25 by LTC Mitsuo Kakayeda (C), USCAR Miyako Civil Affairs Team. Todd is hospitalized with fractures of both legs and pelvis. This is the second outpouring of sympathy for the Army enlisted man. Specialist Todd, until his hospitalization, was assigned to Miyako as a member of a military civic action unit assisting the island in its rehabilitation from recent typhoon damage and in carrying out a rural development program requested by the island's officials and instituted by High Commissioner James B. Lampert. The soldier suffered his injuries while working on a road improvement project in the village. LTC William F.
