COMPLETION CEREMONY -- The first ceremony in the Ryukyus' history marking the completion of training of the first class of medical interns at the Okinawa Central Hospital (OCH) was held on March 28 to honor five interns from Okinawa and three from Japan mainland. They are (front row, L-R): Hiroaki Asato, graduate of Kumamoto University; Masahiko Ishii, Mie University; Takeo Nishihira, Kyushu University; Masuo Kashitani, Wakayama University; Hideya Ito, Mie University; Takeshi Yabiku, Nagasaki University; Choko Uezu, Wakayama University; and Kiyoshi Chinen, Kumamoto University. USCAR contracted with the U-H to conduct the internship training program and specialty training for the OCH staff for the purpose of further development of medical standards in the Ryukyus , using guidelines recommended by the Council of Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association.
