JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE --on the progress of the internship training program and plans of the Okinawa Central Hospital (OCH), was held March 28, following the first completion ceremony for eight interns who completed a one-year internship training program at the OCH. Col. (Dr.) John P. Fairchild, director, Public Health and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR), is shown answering a reporter's question. Facing the camera are (front row, L-R): Dr. Joji Arakaki, director, OCH; Dr. N. L. Gault, medical education director, University of Hawaii Postgraduate Medical Education Program at the OCH; Dr. Fairchild; and Bunsho Gima, director, Welfare Dept., Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRI). The program was conducted by the University of Hawaii for USCAR through the joint efforts of GRI and the Government of Japan to elevate standards of medical practice, and to alleviate the shortage of doctors in the Ryukyus.
【和訳】合同記者会見 - 中部病院初となる研修医実習事業で、8名のインターンが1年間の研修を終えた3月28日、同事業の進捗と中部病院の今後の計画について合同記者会見が開催された。米国民政府公衆衛生福祉局長ジョン・P・フェアチャイルド大佐（博士）が記者の質問に答えた。（カメラに向かって前列左から）中部病院の新垣浄治院長、ハワイ大学卒後医学研修事業のN・L・ゴールト博士、フェアチャイルド博士、琉球政府厚生局儀間文彰局長。同事業は医療技術の向上と琉球の医師不足改善を目的としたハワイ大学と米国民政府の契約にもとづき、日琉両政府の協力を得て実施された。
