CERTIFICATE PRESENTATION -Dr. Joji Arakaki (L), director, Okinawa Central Hospital (OCH), is shown presenting a certificate to Kiyoshi Chinen--one of eight interns who have completed the first one-year internship training program at the OCH. Others pictured are (L-R): Dr. N. L. Gault, medical education director, University of Hawaii Post Graduate Medical Education Program at OCH; and Seibun Katsuren, administrator, OCH. The ceremony was held at the hospital March 28, attended by some 50 Ryukyuans and Americans including Col. (Dr.) John P.Fairchild, director, Public Health and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus; Bunsho Gima, director, Welfare Dept., Government of the Ryukyu Islands; and Dr. Chokei Ogimi, president, Okinawa Medical Association. Of the eight interns, three from Japan proper will return to the mainland to continue medical practice or postgraduate study at their university hospitals. The remaining five will stay in Okinawa for residencies in surgery and internal medicine at the OCH. 【和訳】修了証授与式 - 中部病院で最初の1年間の医学実習を終えた8名の研修医の一人チネン・キヨシに修了証を手渡す新垣浄治院長。(左から)ハワイ大学卒後医学研修事業のN・L・ゴールト博士、中部病院の勝連盛文事務局長。授与式は3月28日に行われ、米国民政府公衆衛生福祉局長ジョン・P・フェアチャイルド大佐、琉球政府厚生局儀間文彰局長、沖縄医師会の大宜見朝計会長など琉米の関係者50人が参列した。8名の研修医のうち3名は日本本土出身で、戻った後は大学病院で医療業務に従事したり、医学の勉強を続ける予定。あとの5名は外科や内科の専門医研修のため中部病院に残る。
