CONGRATULATORY SPEECH -- Col. (Dr.) John P. Fairchild (R), director, Public Health and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus, is shown congratulating 69 graduating students of the Naha Nursing School on their successful completion of basic and advanced courses. Of the 69, 39 completed a three-year basic course in nursing, 20 completed a one-year additional advanced course in public health nursing, and 10 in midwifery. The school has graduated 330 nurses including 229 public health nurses and 38 midwives since it was opened in 1954. In his speech at the commencement ceremony on Mar. 2, Col. Fairchild said "You have chosen careers which are exciting and satisfying but demanding of self-sacrifice and hard work. There is lots to be done in the field of nursing and the community depends on your eagerness as an individual worker to maintain the highest standards of professionalism. " Interpreting for Col. Fairchild is Miss Masako Shimabukuro, public health nurse at his office.
【和訳】祝辞 - 那覇看護学校の3年間の基礎課程と上級課程を修了した69名の卒業生を称える米国民政府公衆衛生福祉局長ジョン・P・フェアチャイルド大佐（右）。卒業生69名中、39名が3年間の看護基礎課程を修了し、20名がさらに1年間の公衆衛生看護学の上級課程を、10名が助産婦課程を修了した。同校は1954年の創立以来、330名の看護婦を世に送り出しており、うち229名は公衆衛生看護婦、38名は助産師である。3月2日の卒業式の冒頭、フェアチャイルド大佐は「あなた方の選んだ道はやりがいに満ちていると同時に、自己犠牲と努力が求められる。看護の分野はやるべきことが多く、地域の安心は最高水準の技能を維持しようとするあなた方ひとりひとりの熱意にかかっている」と述べた。通訳は同局シマブクロ・マサコ公衆衛生看護婦。
