CONGRATULATIONS --Dr. Joji Arakaki (2nd from L), director, Okinawa Central Hospital (OCH) at Gushikawa, congratulates Dr. Seisho Higa (L), one of 11 doctors who have successfully completed the first one-year postgraduate medical training at the hospital. Others pictured are Dr. Neal L. Gault (3rd from L), medical director, University of Hawaii Advisory Group at the OCH; and Seibun Katsuren (partly shown), OCH hospital administrator. The completion ceremony was held at the hospital Mar. 28, attended by some 50 Ryukyuan and American medical officials, including Col. (Dr.) John P. Fairchild, director, Health, Education and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus; Dr. Minoru Hara, chief, Medical Affairs Div., Welfare Dept., Government of the Ryukyu Islands; and Dr. Choke Ogimi, chairman, Okinawa Medical Association. Of the 11 doctors, seven from Okinawa and one from the Japanese mainland will remain at OCH for specialty training in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery and obstetrics-gynecology. The two from the mainland returned to their alma mater, Kumamoto University, to continue medical practice or postgraduate study at the university hospital, and the remaining one from Okinawa, is to work with the Ishikawa Health Center to prepare himself for advanced training in public health and preventive medicine.
