GRADUATION -- Dr, (Col.) Robert T. Jensen (2nd from L), director of the Health, Education and Welfare Dept., (HEW), U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR), shares the joys of graduation with midwives at the Naha-Nursing School Auditoriurn Mar. 16. Interpreting for him is Frank F. Nomura, interpreter, USCAR's HEW. Midwives pictured are (L-R) Kazue Nohara, Eiko Asato, Yasuko Uchima and Keiko Bise. In a speech delivered at the graduation ceremony, Dr. Jensen said, "you are entering a profession that will demand a life-long attitude of willingness to learn of new medicines, treatment and techniques. Yet, there is one aspect of nursing that should not change, and that is compassion." The graduation ceremony for 75 nurses and midwives was attended by Dr. Sadao Ikehara, president, University of the Ryukyus; Dr, Tatsuo Tabata, director, Naha Hospital; and Taeko Kinjo, president, Okinawa Nurses Association.
【和訳】卒業式 - 那覇看護学校講堂で3月16日、助産師たちと卒業の喜びを分かち合う米国民政府厚生教育局福祉部長ロバート・T・ジェンセン医師（大佐）(左から2人目）。通訳するのは同局通訳フランク・F・ノムラ。 卒業生は左からノハラ・カズエ、アサト・エイコ、ウチマ・ヤスコ、ビセ・ケイコ。ジェンセン医師は祝辞の中で「皆さんは新しい薬や治療法、技術を学ぶ姿勢を生涯にわたり求められる職業に就くことになります。それでも看護には変えるべきではない側面が1つあります。それは思いやりです」と述べた。看護師と助産師75名の卒業式には、琉球大学イケハラ・サダオ学長、那覇病院タバタ・タツオ院長、沖縄看護協会キンジョウ・タエコ会長が出席した。
