BEACH BEAUTIFICATION -- Enthusiasm is developing among U.S. servicemen to beautify the beaches on Okinawa. A group of 20 servicemen from the Naval Air Facility cleaned up the beach in Nashiro, Itoman-Cho, and collected several trucks of rubbishes on July 23. Journalist 1 Dick Ward, project organizer, said that he hopes both Okinawans and Americans will do something about the littered beaches. The U.S. Army and Air Force will assist Mayor Kotoku Toyama of Onna-Son in his forward-looking program of developing the natural beauty of the coast of his municipality. The U.S. Marine Corps has also offered its assistance in cleaning the beaches in the municipalities of Ginoza, Kin and Kushi. ≪海岸の美化計画-米軍人の間では沖縄の海岸を美化しようとする熱意が高まっている。米海軍航空隊所属の水兵20人が7月23日、糸満町名城海岸を清掃し、トラック数台分のチリを処理した。この計画の担当官であるディック・ワード広報官は「琉米人が一体となってよごれた海岸を清掃することを希望する」と語った。なお、米陸・空軍も海岸美化を計画している当山幸徳恩納村々長に協力することになっている。また、海兵隊も宜野座村、金武村及び久志村の海岸を清掃する計画に参加するよう申し込んでいる。≫
