"FLYING HEALTH SERVICE" -- A Ryukyuan-American health team began a series of dental and medical treatments April 4 on the islands of Izena and Iheya, lying some 20 miles north of Nago. The treatment of residents of five villages on each island will continue on successive Saturday mornings until the end of June. The initial team of 22 persons flew to Izena by a U.S. Marine Corps CH-53 helicopter piloted by Lt. Col. Peter F. Lottsfeldt. The U.S. Army Dental Activity at Camp Kue has 35 personnel including dentists, dental technologists and assistants who have volunteered their Saturday off-duty time for the program. The initial flying health team consisted of Dr. (Lt. Col.) Felix Neri, officer in charge, Sukiran Dental Clinic; Doctors (Captains) George Hankerson, John M. Daugherty and Robert P. Coopmans; Specialists James P. Farley, Nathan F. Silvola, Robert A. Schwab, Jerry W. Braud and Richard W. Deacon; Miss Sue Arakaki, and Miss Michiko Takara, from the U.S. Army Dental Activity; Dr. (Col.) Robert T. Jensen, director, Dr. (Capt.) Anthony F. Vuturo, preventive medicine officer, and Arthur Niino, program analyst, from the Health, Education and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus; and Shigenobu Shimabukuro, preventive medicine officer, Seizo Sakihara, health educator and Shinko Sakiyama, tuberculosis control officer from the Welfare Dept., Government of the Ryukyus. Five health officials from the Nago Health Center joined the "flying health service." ≪空飛ぶ医療班--琉米医療班が4月4日、名護の北方約20哩の所にある伊是名・伊平屋両村の6ヶ部落で、無料検診を開始した。この検診は毎週土曜日に行われ、6月まで続けられる。22人で構成する最初の医療班は、米海兵隊所属のCH-53型ヘリコプター（操縦ピーター・F・ロックフェルツ中佐）で伊是名に渡った。米陸軍病院の歯科医師、技師および助手35人が、非番を利用して無料奉仕検診を行う。第一回目の医療班は、米陸軍病院からズケラン歯科クリニックの主任将校フェリックス・ネリー中佐、ジョージ・ハンカーソン大尉、ジョン・Ｍ・ドハーティー大尉、ロバート・Ｐ・クープマンズ大尉（以上医師）、ジェームス・Ｐ・ファーリー下士官、ナーザン・Ｆ・シルボラ下士官、ロバート・Ａ・スワーブ下士官、ジェリー・Ｗ・ブラウド下士官、リチャード・Ｗ・ディーコン下士官、新垣スエさん、多嘉良美智子さん、米国民政府厚生教育局からロバート・Ｔ・ジェンスン局長（医師）、アンソニー・Ｆ・ブツロ防疫医師、アーサー・ニイノ氏、および琉球政府厚生局から島袋重信防疫官、崎原盛造保健教育官、崎山信幸結核予防官。なお、名護保健所の保健係官5人も同医療班に同行した。≫
