INSPECTION OF LARVA BREEDING PLACE -- Omer E. Roller, sanitation engineer, Health, Education and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR), visiting Henza Island, is shown inspecting a rain water catchment to see whether it breeds mosquito larvae. Mrs. Haruyo Yoshioka, USCAR's public health nurse, looks on. They are members of a medical survey team which inspected the condition of environmental sanitation and public health on the island in Yonashiro Son. The survey was made at the request of Village Chief Tokuichi Tamae who spoke to High Commissioner F. T. Unger when the latter visited the island July 25 as part of a continuing fact-gathering and get-acquainted program to improve the welfare and well being of the people in rural communities of the Ryukyus. ≪幼虫の棲息場所の検査--写真は米国民政府厚生教育局の衛生技師オーマ・E・ロラー氏が平安座島に派遣され同島の天水貯水タンクにカの幼虫が発生してないかを検査しているところ。左側で観ているのは同局の公看ハルヨ・ヨシオカさん。ロラー氏及びヨシオカさんは与那城村の平安座島における環境衛生と公衆衛生の実情を調査するため派遣されたものである。この調査はアンガー高等弁務官が沖縄のへき地住民の福祉安寧増進のための現地事情視察計画の一環として去る25日に同島を訪問した時玉栄徳市区長から要請があり、それに答えて行われたものである。≫
