Four Ryukyuan medical welfare officials held a news conference on June 30 at the press room of the Executive Building following their one-month tour to study and observe medical and welfare activities in the United States. They are (L-R) Dr. Fumio Yamakawa, president, Association for Mentally Retarded Children; Yoshitaka Kakazu, welfare official, Public Health and Welfare Dept., USCAR; Dr. Shiro Yamada, director, Crippled Children's Hospital; and Seiko Takemura, director, Physically Handicapped Persons Rehabilitation Training Center, Government of the Ryukyu Islands. The National Leader Program under which the men traveled is sponsored by USCAR to update Ryukyuan officials in their fields of specialties by observing new techniques and concepts developed in the United States. 【和訳】米国での医療福祉を視察する1か月の研修を終えた医療福祉関係者4人が、6月30日に行政庁舎で記者会見を行った。(左から)沖縄精神薄弱児育成会の山川文雄会長、米国民政府公衆衛生局福祉部カカズ・ヨシタカ、沖縄整肢療護園長の山田之朗博士、琉球政府身体障害者更生指導所の武村盛弘所長。4人が参加した米国民政府が後援する国民指導員計画は、米国で開発された新しい技術や概念を視察し、琉球の行政担当者が専門分野の最新情報を得るもの。
