U.S. PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE EXPERT CONDUCTS DEMONSTRATION -- Dr. Merlin L. Brubaker (R, looking at boy), medical director, U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, Carville, La., conducted a demonstration on the diagnosis and treatment procedures used on Hansen's disease to same 200 Ryukyuan public health and medical personnel at the Airaku-en Leprosarium No. 15. Shown assisting Dr. Brubaker at center is Dr. Jiro Minato (4th from R), physician, Airaku-en. The demonstration was conducted at the newly-opened recreation center for patients of Airakuen, which was named "Passman Hall" by the patients in honor of U.S. Representative Otto E. Passman (D-La.), chairman of the Foreign Operations Subcommittee of the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee. Dr. Brubaker arrived on Okinawa Nov. 12 for his second visit to the islands and to lecture on Hansen's disease to Ryukyuan health personnel at the invitation of the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands. He is scheduled to depart for India Nov. 20.
【和訳】米国公衆衛生監督官によるデモンストレーション - 米公衆衛生局病院医療部長マーリン・L・ブルーベイカー（右、少年を見ている）は、愛楽園15号病棟で琉球の200人の≪公衆衛生関係者にハンセン氏病の診療及び取り扱いについて臨床講義とデモンストレーションを行った。中央（右から4番目）は愛楽園の湊次郎医師。この講義はこのほど新築され、オットー・E・パスマン議員（ルイジアナ州選出。米下院歳出委員会対外活動分科委員会委員長）の名にちなんで命名されたパスマン会館で行われた。ブルーベイカー医師は琉球の医療及び衛生関係者にハ氏病について講演するために2度目の来島となったもの。同医師は20日にインドへ発つ予定。≫
