U.S. PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE (PHS) EXPERTS -- Doctors Merlin L. Brubaker (2nd from L, standing), medical director, and Robert Hastings (3rd from L, kneeling), deputy chief, Outpatient Division, both of the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, Carville, La., conducted a medical demonstration on Hansen's disease (leprosy) to Ryukyuan medical personnel at the Okinawa Medical Association (OMA) building on the evening of Nov. 14. Some 30 children from Airaku-en Leprosarium participated in the demonstration. Ryukyuan doctors shown in photo are, (L-R, standing): Shogi Miyazato, Okinawa Central Hospital; Yasushi Miyagi and Eijun Taira, both of the Naha General Hospital; Jiro Minato, Airaku-en; and Seimatsu Kinjo, president, OMA. Also pictured are Capt. Carter L. Marshall (lower left), chief, Medical Division, and Col. John P. Fairchild, (lower right), director, both of the Public Health and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands (USCAR). The two Hansen's Disease experts arrived on Okinawa Nov. 12, in connection with the Third Ryukyuan Anti-Hansen's Disease Week held throughout the Ryukyu Islands. Dr. Brubaker will lecture on Hansen's Disease to Ryukyuan public health and medical personnel, at the invitation of USCAR. He will depart on Nov. 20 for India. Dr. Hastings left for India Nov. 15.
