REHABILITATION PROGRAM FOR EX-TB PATIENTS -- The 6th annual convention of the Okinawa Ryoyu-Kai (Okinawa Ex-Tuberculosis (TB) Patients' Association) was held on April 9 in Naha, attended by some 300 persons. Col. William G. Brooks (L), director, Public Health and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands, is pictured being shown an explanation of the association activities in the health education, rehabilitation and welfare of patients ill with TB and those people cured of this disease. At right are Dr. Makoto Nakajimo of Japan and association executives secretary Eisei Yamashiro. Representing the high commissioner and the civil administrator, Col. Brooks said in his speech, "Those who are active in health education have an opportunity to relate their interest in tuberculosis control and rehabilitation service to bring about a better understanding among the Ryukyuan people. An individual will find his own life more meaningful when he participates in the health education programs of government and voluntary organizations."
【和訳】結核回復者のリハビリテーション事業 - 沖縄療友会（結核患者会）の第6回定期大会が4月9日に那覇市で開催され、約300人が参加した。 写真は米国民政府公衆衛生福祉局長ウィリアム・G・ブルークス大佐（左）≪が同会の保健教育厚生福祉面に於ける活動について説明を受けているところ。右側は、本土政府派遣医師中嶋誠と同会事務局長山城永盛（右）の両氏。ブルークス大佐は高等弁務官及び民政府官を代理にして挨拶の中で次のように述べた。”保健教育で活動している人々なら住民のよりよい理解をもたらすために、結核の防圧や患者の更生に努めて関心を示していただきたい。ある人が公共や奉仕団体の保健教育計画に参加するようになると、その人の人生はさらに意義深いものとなるでしょう。”≫
