TUBERCULIN TINE TEST - The U.S. Army Nurse Corps (ANC), Ryukyu Islands, and nurses of the Kubasaki Senior High School (KSHS) conducted a tuberculosisdetecting Tuberculin Tine Test of students of the KSHS on March 14, and the test reactions were checked on March 17. 1st. Lt. Betty M. Foree (2nd from R), Army health nurse, ANC, is shown reading the reaction of Michael Mosteller, Jr. (L) Looking on are Fumiko Owan, (2nd from L) instructor, and Michiko Kuwae (R), student, both of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRI) Koza Nursing School. Another instructor and three other students of the Koza Nursing School also observed the Tine Testing program at the invitation of the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands (USCAR). Unlike the PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test, the Tine Test unit is disposable, thereby eliminating the need for special syringes, needles and equipment for tuberculin testing. Its reaction is quicker than that of the PPD. USCAR, in cooperation with the ANC and KSHS, provided an opportunity for GRI health personnel to observe the Tine Testing program so that the same program may be smoothly conducted in GRI school testing programs.
