MODERN MEDICINE TO A REMOTE ISLAND -- Words of encouragement are given by Government of the Ryukyu Islands' Deputy Chief Executive Seiko Kohagura (R) to doctors and nurses preparing to fly aboard helicopters of the 263rd Marine Corps Medium Helicopter Squadron on Sept. 24 to 28 to provide medical examinations and treatment to 4,000 residents of Kouri Island, northwest of Okinawa. The program, sponsored by the Ryukyu Shimpo, a major Naha daily, and the Okinawa Medical Association, is part of their continuing project to give medical aid to remote islands in the Ryukyu chair, with the aid of the U.S. military. The squadron made 44 flights to the island carrying medical personnel and equipment during the four-day period. Shown at center in the Ryukyu Shimpo Hall are, L-R: Maj.
