UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII (UH) President Dr. Thomas H. Hamilton greets Miss Sumiko Oshiro, hospital nurse, who recently returned from the Institute for Technical Interchange (ITI), East-West Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, following a five-month nursing program by the ITI, during his visit to the Okinawa Central Hospital, July 24. With them are Director Dr .Neal Gault (2nd from L), and Laboratory Advisor Steven Chinen, of the UH advisory staff at the hospital. During his three-day visit, Dr. Hamilton reviewed the operation and progress of UH's Postgraduate Medical Education Program at the hospital, the first of its kind in the Ryukyus. An initial group of eight interns from Okinawa and mainland Japan are presently undergoing training to qualify them for the practice of medicine in mainland Japan or Okinawa. At present, a staff of 13 physicians and nine supporting staff members are conducting the program.
【和訳】ハワイ大学のトーマス・H・ハミルトン学長は７月24日、中部病院を訪問した際、ハワイ州ホノルルの東西センター技術交流研究所（ITI）で5カ月にわたる看護実習を終えて帰国したオオシロ・スミコ看護婦と面会した。同席しているのはハワイ大学顧問団ニール・ゴールト団長（左から2人目）とスティーブン・チネン研究所顧問。３日間の訪問でハミルトン博士は、琉球初のハワイ大学医学研修計画の運営と進捗状況を視察した。第一弾の沖縄と本土からの8人の研修医たちは現在、本土または沖縄で医師になるための研修を受けている。現在、13人の医師と9人の指導員がこの計画に従事している。
