INTSRNSHIP TRAINING -- Takeshi Yabiku, an intern in the postgraduate medical training program at the Okinawa Central Hospital in Gushikawa, watches Tomiko Oshiro, nurse at the hospital, treat a patient under the guidance of Dr. Keiichi Goshi (L), internist and a member of the advisory staff from the University of Hawaii. The training program, conducted by the university under contract with the U.S.. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands, will comply with the highest standards in Japan and the United States and will qualify graduates for medical licenses in the Ryukyus as well as in Japan. The hospital was constructed and equipped at a total cost of $1.2 million, of which the U.S. provided nearly $l.5 rnillion. The hospital is being further expanded with U.S. and Government of the Ryukyu Islands funds, totalling some $1.2 million.
【和訳】研修医実習 - 具志川の中部病院で、オオシロ・トミコ看護婦がハワイ大学顧問団ゴシ・ケイイチ内科医（左）の指導のもと患者の手当にあたる様子を見ているヤビク・タケシ研修医。医学実習はハワイ大学と米国民政府との契約に基き実施されている日米最高レベルの研修であり、修了後は日本本土と同様に琉球でも医師免許取得資格が与えられる。病院は総工費120万ドルで建設され、うち115万ドルは米国援助である。米国及び琉球政府予算約120万ドルでさらに拡張工事が行われている。
