SABIN ANTI-POLIO VACCINE -- U.S and Ryukyuan public health officials on May 11 began distribution of U.S. -provided Sabin vaccine for 30,000 Ryukyuan and "Third Country" (non-U.S. Forces) children who are receiving immunization innoculations this week from Ryukyuan Government doctors and nurses. From there, the anti-polio vaccine, provided for the third year in a row to the Ryukyuan people by the United States, was distributed throughout Okinawa, its immediate off-shore islands, and to the Southern Ryukyuan island groups of Miyako and Yaeyama, using U.S. military helicopters and vehicles, and GRI vehicles and small boats.
