MALARIA FEAR SWEPT OFF -- Dr. C. T. Chen (L), malaria advisor, Western Pacific Regional Office, World Health Organization (WHO), reported the results of his one week's malaria survey in the Ryukyus at a press conference in the Executive Building press room on Mar. 19. Said Dr. Chen: "The malaria eradication program was successful and is nearing its goal. Economic and health conditions in settlements in Yaeyama have been much improved and people are working without fear of malaria, which was once dreaded not only by imigrants but also by the inhabitants of Yaeyama. " He was in the Ryrukyus from Mar. 10 to 20 to inspect the malaria eradication program which has been conducted by the Government of the Ryukyus with the cooperation and assistance of the office of the High Commissioner.
【和訳】世界保健機関マラリア顧問のチェン博士がメディア対応 3月19日、世界保健機関西太平洋地域マラリアアドバイザーのC・T・チェン博士(左)は行政府ビルで記者会見し、1週間のマラリア調査の結果を報告した。「マラリア撲滅計画は成功しゴールに近づいている。八重山の集落の経済や健康状態はかなり改善され、かつては移住者だけでなく住民も恐れていたマラリアの心配はなくなった」と述べた。博士は3月10日から20日まで、琉球政府が高等弁務官事務室の協力と援助を受け実施するマラリア撲滅プログラムの確認調査のため滞在していた。
