THE ANNUAL GENERAL SPRING CLEAN-UP DRIVE sponsored by the Government of the Ryukyus began in all the shi-cho-sons (municipalities) in Okinawa and Miyako on May 1 and will continue through May 7. In Yaeyama, the program was completed on April 14. Aims of the Clean-Up Week are to eliminate insect-breed-ing places, to dispose of all filth, to construct sanitary toilets and filth containers, and to improve lighting, ventilation and drainage. The U.S. Forces are furnishing military trucks to carry off refuse within various shi-cho-sons and the Public Health and Welfare Dept., Office of the High Commissioner, is assisting local sanitary officials in carrying out the program.

【和訳】毎年恒例春のクリーンアップ作戦
春の大掃除作戦－5月1日から5月7日までを期間とし、沖縄と宮古の全市町村で春の大掃除作戦が行われた。主催は琉球政府。八重山では終了日が4月14日。清掃週間の目的は、虫の繁殖場所をなくすこと、すべての汚物を処分すること、衛生的なトイレと汚物入れを作ること、照明、換気、排水を改善すること。米軍は各市町村のゴミを運び出すため軍用トラックを提供。また、高等弁務官事務所公衆衛生福祉部はプログラム実行のため地元の衛生当局を支援している。
