RYUKYUS-WIDE SABIN ANTI-POLIO immunization program is being conducted at various locations in the Ryukyus. Millions of persons in the United States have received and are continuing to receive American-made Sabin vaccine immunization against poliomyelitis, after years of development and testing. Here, Ryukyuan children from six months to six years of age are shown receiving a dose of oral vaccine at the Kainan Elementary School, Naha. It is estimated that from 139,000 to 150,000 Ryukyuan children will get the Sabin vaccine, provided by the United States, and administered by the Government of the Ryukyu Islands.

琉球各地でセービン株ポリオ予防接種プログラムを実施中。長年にわたる開発と試験の後、米国では数百万人がアメリカ製セービンワクチンをすでに接種済み、現在も接種は続いている。写真は那覇市立開南小学校で経口ワクチンの接種を受ける生後6カ月から6歳までの琉球の児童の様子。セービンワクチンは米国が提供し、接種を琉球政府が実施。13万9千人から15万人の琉球の子どもたちが受けると推定されている。
