SABIN VACCINE ANTI-POLIO POSTER is admired by Seichu Agarie (L), director, Welfare Dept., GRI, and Lt. Col. (Dr.) Roy A. Highsmith, director, PH&W, Office of the High Commissioner, at the joint, press conference on Mar. 12 announcing the Ryukyus-wide Sabin oral vaccine anti-polio immunization program. Lt. Col. Highsmith is pointing out that the oral vaccine stands between healthy children and crippling poliomyelitis. The vaccine will be administered in three doses, given one month apart -- Type I at the initial immunization, Type II and III one month later and a combination of Types I, II and III and additional month later. Public health officials stressed that all children must receive the Sabin vaccine, regardless of whether they have already completed the Salk vaccine series, because of the greater protection given by Sabin.

セービン株ポリオ予防接種ポスターに感心する琉球政府福祉部のアガリエ・セイチュウ部長と高等弁務官事務所保健衛生局局長のロイ・A.・ハイスミス中佐（博士）。3月12日に行われた琉球全域セービン株経口ポリオワクチン予防接種プログラムの発表共同記者会見にて。ハイスミス中佐は、経口ワクチンは、障害を残すポリオウィルスから子どもたちを守るものだと指摘。セービンワクチンは、接種が全3回で、初回にI型、1ヵ月後にII型とIII型、さらに1ヵ月後にI型、II型、III型の混合を、1ヵ月間隔で計3回の投与を行う。公衆衛生担当者たちは、セービンワクチンの方がより高い予防効果があるため、ソークワクチン全回をすでに終了しているかどうかにかかわらず、すべての児童がセービンワクチンを接種する必要があると強調した。
