米民政府台風被害調査団を八重山に派遣－ジェームス・B・ランパート高等弁務官に代り、9月23日、米民政府調査団は台風28号（ベス）の直撃を受けた八重山諸島の被害状況を調査した。同地域は近年中中で最大の台風被害を蒙った。同調査団はM・D・ラウシュ副民政官を団長に、公益事業局の工務建設部長J・A・ビーベン中佐及びエドワード・カネシマ氏で、高等弁務官専用機には星克立法院議長も同乗した。
HIGH COMMISSIONER SENDS DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM TO YAEYAMA, YONAGUNI -- A U.S. Civil Administration (USCAR) team, representing High Commissioner James B. Lampert, inspected the damage wrought by Typhoon Bess on the islands of Yaeyama and Yonaguni, Sept. 23. The islands of Yaeyama suffered severe damage from one of the worst storms to hit the southern Ryukyus Islands in recent years. The team was headed by Deputy Civil Administrator M. D. Roush and included Lt. Col. J. A. Beben, chief of Engineering and Construction Division, and Mr. Edward Kaneshima, both of the Public Works Dept., USCAR. Also on the High Commissioner's special aircraft, in which the team flew to the southern islands, was Katsu Hoshi: speaker of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands Legislature.
