HIGH COMMISSIONER DISPATCHES FOUR TEAMS TO SURVEY TYPHOON “CORA” DAMAGE -- Utilizing two helicopters and one airplane, four U.S. Civil Administration survey teams organized at the direction of High Commissioner James B. Lampert and including Government of the Ryukyu Islands and Japanese Government representatives Aug. 22 and 23 inspected damage from typhoon No. 9 (Cora) which lashed Okinawa and outlying island on Aug. 19 and 20. Investigating conditions on the islands of Tokashiki, Tonaki, Zamami, Kumejima, Izena and Iheya, the survey teams found damage ranging from complete to partial destruction of homes, severe damage to animal sheds, and complete destruction of vegetable and fruit crops.

高等弁務官、台風「コラ」被害調査に4チームを派遣－ジェームス・B・ランパート高等弁務官の指示で編成された米国民政局の調査団4チームが、ヘリコプター2機と飛行機1機を使い、台風9号「コラ」の被害調査を実施。調査は8月22日と23日に行われ、琉球政府と日本政府の代表らも参加した。「コラ」は8月19日から20日にかけ沖縄とその遠隔にある島々を襲ったもので、調査団は、渡嘉敷島、渡名喜島、座間味島、久米島、伊是名島、伊平屋島を訪れ被害状況を調査。家屋の全壊から半壊、家畜小屋の大きな被害、野菜や果物の壊滅が確認された。
