Aguni
INSPECTION TOUR TO RYPHOON-STRUCK OFFSHORE ISLANDS—Officials of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRI) and the U. S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR), flew Oct. 1 to Tonaki and Aguni Islands west of Okinawa Island by a U. S. Army helicopter to inspect the typhoon damages in those islands. Mayor Minoru Shinjo ® of Aguni-son is shown near the Aguni-son office explaining typhoon damages to (R-L) Col. (Dr.) John P. Fairchild, director, Health, Education and Welfare Dept., USCAR; Chief Executive Seiho Matsuoka; Matsuji Mizayazato, director, Agriculture and Forestry Dept., GRI; and Ryukyu Legislator Shochi Ota. A U. S. military vessel departed Naha Military Port for Tonaki Oct. 3 to transport 9,777 pounds of food, one case of mosquito nets, and five bales of blankets, provided by the Ryukyu Islands Voluntary Agencies Committee.
